Description

DELCG1_ALL indicates whether, in response to an opened-ended question, the woman reported a nurse gave delivery care for a recent birth. This response category is country-specific to Congo Brazzaville.

DELCG1_ALL consists of a set of up to five separate variables, covering the most recent birth (DELCG1_01) up to the fifth-most-recent birth (i.e., DELCG1_02, DELCG1_03, DELCG1_04, and DELCG1_05) during the reference period prior to the survey. If DELCG1_ALL is included in a data extract, all these separate variables are included in a researcher's data file.

Some samples in the "DEL" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

DELCG1_ALL is combined with DELCG2_ALL (midwife) for the 2005 and 2011 Congo Brazzaville samples to create the standard variable DELNURM_ALL (nurse/midwife). IPUMS DHS users interested in using DELCG1_ALL are encouraged to review DELNURM_ALL for this more comprehensive response category.
