Description

For last-born children under age five who were either a) delivered away from a health facility or b) delivered at a health facility where their mother did not receive a health check before being discharged, DELPPCHKALOC (M69) reports where the child's mother's postpartum health check took place. Response categories vary across samples. See Comparability.

Along with universe differences, the response categories for DELPPCHKALOC vary across samples.

The harmonized coding categories in the IPUMS-DHS variable DELPPCHKALOC were constructed to reflect the major and minor categories in the original DHS variable (M69). The major categories are:

• 1000: Home
• 2000: Public sector facilities
• 3000: Private medical sector facilities
• 4000: Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
• 5000: Religious/mission facilities

The second, third, and fourth digits of DELPPCHKALOC's codes distinguish between specific locations and provide detail present in only some samples.
