DELTRANIA3_ALL variables are 1-digit variables.
0 = No
1 = Yes
9 = NIU (not in universe)
Description
DELTRANIA3_ALL indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported that a health worker arranged transportation to take the mother to the health facility for the child's delivery. This response category is country-specific to India.
DELTRANIA3_ALL consists of a set of up to six separate variables, covering the most recent birth (DELTRANIA3_01) up to the sixth-most-recent birth (i.e., DELTRANIA3_02, DELTRANIA3_03, DELTRANIA3_04, DELTRANIA3_05, and DELTRANIA3_06) during the reference period prior to the survey. If DELTRANIA3_ALL is included in a data extract, all these separate variables are included in a researcher's data file.
Some samples in the "DELTRAN" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
DELTRANIA3_ALL is combined with DELTRANIA4_ALL (accredited social health activist (ASHA)) in DELTRANIAFW_ALL (all fieldworkers) for the 2019 India sample.
Comparability
DELTRANIA3_ALL has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
DELTRANIA3_ALL is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS women's questionnaire.
Although DELTRANIA3_ALL is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in DELTRANFW_ALL, a variable that encompasses all fieldworkers who arranged transportation to take the mother to the health facility for delivery. IPUMS DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of DELTRANIA3_ALL or the Comparability tab of DELTRANFW_ALL for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2019 India sample.
