Codes

0 = No
1 = Yes
7 = Don't know
8 = Missing
9 = NIU (not in universe)

Description

DELUMBTRRICE_ALL indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the respondent reported that chewed rice was applied to the stump of her child's umbilical cord.

DELUMBTRRICE_ALL consists of a set of six separate variables, covering the most recent birth (DELUMBTRRICE_01) up to the sixth-most-recent birth (i.e., DELUMBTRRICE_02, DELUMBTRRICE_03, DELUMBTRRICE_04, DELUMBTRRICE_05, and DELUMBTRRICE_06) during the reference period prior to the survey. If DELUMBTRRICE_ALL is included in a data extract, all these separate variables are included in a researcher's data file.

For most surveys, this information was collected for only the most recent birth (DELUMBTRRICE_01). Surveys in which the data were collected for additional births are noted in the comparability section.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, DELUMBTRRICE_ALL is largely comparable across samples.

Comparability - Standard DHS

DELUMBTRRICE_ALL is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire, but it is part of a series in the standard newborn care module for Phase VII. DELUMBTRRICE_01 is a country-specific response.
