Codes and Frequencies
Description
DISPOSESTOOL (V465) reports how the respondent disposes of her youngest child's stools.
Comparability
In addition to universe differences and differences in question wording across phases, DISPOSESTOOL (V465) differs across samples in the number of response categories. To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses a composite coding system in which broad categories share a common first digit. The meaning of "other" in a given sample depends on the categories specified for that survey. For the question wording and response categories appearing on the questionnaire for surveys of interest, consult the Survey Text tab.
Comparability - Standard DHS
DISPOSESTOOL (V465) is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
In Phase IV, the standard questionnaire asks, "What is usually done to dispose of your (youngest) child's stools when he/she does not use any toilet facility?"
In Phases V through VII, the standard questionnaire asks, "The last time NAME passed stools, what was done to dispose of the stools?" Phases V and VI ask about the youngest surviving child under age 5 living with the respondent, while Phase VII asks about the youngest surviving child under age 2 living with the respondent.
