Description
DVHMEDIA9 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported an urban health center as the place where she sought help from a doctor or other medical personnel after experiencing physical or sexual abuse. This response category is country-specific to India.
Some samples in the "DVHMED" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
DVHMEDIA9 is combined with DVHMEDIA10 (primary health center) and DVHMEDIA11 (sub-center) in DVHMEDPUBHC (all public health centers) for the 2019 India sample.
Comparability
DVHMEDIA9 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
DVHMEDIA9 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS women's questionnaire or standard domestic violence module.
Although DVHMEDIA9 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in DVHMEDPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers as a location where medical help after abuse was acquired. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of DVHMEDIA9 or the Comparability tab of DVHMEDPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2019 India sample.
