ETHNICITYGA (V131GA) reports the female respondent's ethnic group, using categories country-specific to Gabon.
Apart from universe differences and slight differences in the number of response categories, ETHNICITYGA (V131GA) is largely comparable across samples. IPUMS-DHS uses a composite coding system for this variable, in which "Other" responses have a two-digit code and share a common first digit of "1," with specific detail (e.g., "Other, foreign" for Gabon 2012) preserved in the second digit.
Comparability - Standard DHS
ETHNICITY (V131) is a standard variable included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase 2 forward, with country-specific response categories.
