Description
Women who stated that female circumcision should continue (in FCCONTINU)were asked a follow-up question about why it should continue. FCCUSTRAD captures whether they said the practice should continue because of "custom and tradition." Note that similar material is covered in FCCTRAD, which gives "good tradition" as the rationale for continuing female circumcision.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, FCCUSTTRAD has no universe problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
FCCUSTTRAD is included in neither the standard DHS questionnaire nor in any of the three versions of the standard DHS module on female circumcision.
