Comparability
Along from universe differences and slight differences in wording, there is variation in response categories for FCDEINFIB, but this variable is largely comparable across samples.
Due to the question being closed-ended, the majority of samples provided only "yes" and "no" as possible responses. Some samples provided additional responses and are discussed in greater detail below.
Comparability - Standard DHS
FCDEINFIB is included in neither the standard DHS questionnaire nor in any of the three versions of the standard DHS module on female circumcision.
Comparability — Burkina Faso [top]
For women who have had their vaginal area reopened after circumcision, the Burkina Faso 1998 survey provides "yes, with first operation" and "yes, after first operation" as possible responses. To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding, with both of these affirmative responses sharing a common first digit of 1 (for "yes") and with additional detail preserved in the second digit for the Burkina Faso 1998 sample.
