Description

Women who agreed with the FCCTRAD or FCCUSTTRAD variables (female circumcision should continue because it is a good tradition or because it is a custom and tradition, respectively) were asked in an open-ended question to explain what was meant by a good tradition. FCGTRELIG captures whether they mentioned the practice is a good tradition due to religious requirements.

Comparability

Apart from slight differences in question wording, FCGTRELIG has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

FCGTRELIG is a country-specific variable and is included in neither the standard DHS questionnaire nor in any version of the standard DHS module on female circumcision.
