Description
For children with a fever or cough in the past 2 weeks, FEVTRPK2 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a private dispenser/compounder. This response category is country-specific to Pakistan.
Some samples in the "FEVTR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FEVTRPK2 is combined with FEVTRPK1 (private pharmacy) in FEVTRPRIVDRUG (all private formal drug sources) for the 2006, 2012, and 2017 Pakistan samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FEVTRPK2 are encouraged to review FEVTRPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, FEVTRPK2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where treatment was sought for the child's fever/cough is included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase II forward.
Although FEVTRPK2 is a country-specific response, it is combined with other responses in FEVTRPRIVDRUG, a standard variable that encompasses private, formal drug sources as potential sources of fever/cough treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FEVTRPK2 or the Comparability tab of FEVTRPRIVDRUG for more information on the specific categories combined for Pakistan 2006, 2012, and 2017.
