Description
For children with a fever or cough in the past 2 weeks, FEVTRPK6 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a "faith healer." This response category is country-specific to Pakistan.
Some samples in the "FEVTR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
For the 1991 Pakistan sample, FEVTRPK6 is combined with FEVTRPK3 (homeopath) and FEVTRPK4 (hakim) in FEVTRPRIVHL (all traditional practitioners/healers). IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FEVTRPK6 are encouraged to review FEVTRPRIVHL for a more comprehensive response category.

FEVTRPK6 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where treatment was sought for the child's fever/cough is included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase II forward.
Although FEVTRPK6 is a country-specific response, it is combined with other responses in FEVTRPRIVHL, a standard variable that encompasses all traditional healers/practitioners as sources of fever/cough treatment.
