Description
For children with a fever or cough in the past 2 weeks, FEVTRPK9 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a public (rural) health center or maternal and child health (MCH) center. This response category is country-specific to Pakistan.
Some samples in the "FEVTR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
For the 2006, 2012, and 2017 Pakistan samples, FEVTRPK9 is combined with FEVTRPK10 (basic health unit/family welfare center) in FEVTRPUBHC (all public health centers).
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FEVTRPK9 are encouraged to review FEVTRPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category for these two samples.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, FEVTRPK9 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where treatment was sought for the child's fever/cough is included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase II forward.
Although FEVTRPK9 is a country-specific response, it is combined with other responses in FEVTRPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers as sources of fever/cough treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FEVTRPK9 or the Comparability tab of FEVTRPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Pakistan 2006, 2012, and 2017.
