Comparability
Along with universe differences, variations in question wording for FPCOMMHR potentially limit comparability.
Most commonly, the question was "In the last few months have you heard about family planning" in a community event/meeting, and the exact time-frame is not specified. However, some samples refer to a specific number of months. For example, some samples ask about family planning messages in the last six or twelve months.
It is probable that varying time intervals could lead to variation in the frequency of responses. Researchers interested in using FPCOMMHR should take the reference period into consideration when comparing across samples. See Survey Text.
Comparability - Standard DHS
FPCOMMHR is a country-specific variable not included in the standard DHS questionnaire.
Comparability — Jordan [top]
The 1997 Jordan questionnaire asks an open-ended question about where the woman receives information about family planning, with "community or public meetings" listed as a response category. This question does not include any time interval, which may limit comparability for the 1997 Jordan sample.
Comparability — Liberia [top]
The 2013 Liberian survey asked whether the female respondent had heard the family planning slogan "Babies by Choice" in this setting.
Comparability — Yemen [top]
The 2013 Yemen survey asked whether the respondent "heard about family planning at women's meeting."
