Description

FPEMRGIA10 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a private traditional healer as the place where she acquired emergency contraception. This response category is country-specific to India.

Some samples in the "FPEMRG" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPEMRGIA10 is combined with FPEMRGIA11 (private AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy)) in FPEMRGPRIVTRAD (all private traditional healers) for the 2019 India sample.

Comparability

FPEMRGIA10 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

FPEMRGIA10 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS women's questionnaire.

Although FPEMRGIA10 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in FPEMRGPRIVTRAD, a variable that encompasses all private traditional healers as a location where emergency contraception was acquired. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPEMRGIA10 or the Comparability tab of FPEMRGPRIVTRAD for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2019 India sample.
