Description
FPEVUSOMOD indicates whether the woman had ever used some "other" modern method to delay or avoid a pregnancy. The complementary variable FPKNOOMOD indicates whether the woman knew about any "other" modern method(s).
The meaning of "other" in this case depends on the specific response categories included in a given sample. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Survey Text tab to review which methods are included in a given sample and better discern the meaning of "other."
Comparability
FPEVUSOMOD has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
Although questions on whether the woman has used a given contraceptive method are included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phases 1 to Phase 5 and in all phases of the standard recode manual, FPEVUSOMOD is a country-specific response category that is not included in any of the standard DHS modules.
