Codes and Frequencies
Description
FPGROUPHR indicates whether the woman has recently heard family planning messages in some type of formal group (e.g., cultural group, peer group discussion).
Comparability
Along with universe differences, question wording varies in FPGROUPHR, limiting the variable's comparability.
For the majority of samples, the woman is asked to recall family planning messages over the ambiguous interval of a "few months," while others asked about a specified number of months.
It is probable that varying time intervals will lead to variation in frequency of responses. Researchers interested in using FPGROUPHR should take the reference period into consideration when comparing across samples.
Comparability - Standard DHS
FPGROUPHR is a country-specific variable not included in the standard DHS questionnaire.
