Description

FPHCVISITY (V394) indicates whether the woman visited a health facility for any reason in the past 12 months.

When children are chosen as the unit of analysis, the woman respondent indicates the mother of the child.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and minor differences in question wording, FPHCVISITY (V394) is comparable across most samples. Samples with potential comparability problems, such as a different reference period, are discussed below.

Comparability - Standard DHS

FPHCVISITY (V394) was included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase 3 forward. For Phase 3, the question was generally phrased as visiting a facility for "any reason." For Phase 4 forward, the question was generally phrased as "care for yourself or your children."

Comparability — Egypt [top]

For Egypt 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2008, women were asked about visits to a health facility during a 6-month reference period.

Comparability — Uganda [top]

The 2006 Uganda survey form asked if the woman had visited a health facility in the past 12 months for care other than family planning.
