Comparability

Along with universe differences, variations in question wording for FPHEALTHWKHR potentially limit comparability.

Many surveys ask about a "health worker" or a "health professional." Surveys that ask about a more specific type of health worker (such as "community health worker") are noted in country-specific comparability below.

Most commonly, the question was "In the last few months have you heard about family planning from a health worker?" and the exact time-frame was not specified. However, some samples refer to a specific number of months. For example, some samples ask about family planning messages in the last one or six months.

Varying time intervals could lead to variation in the frequency of responses. Researchers interested in using FPHEALTHWKHR should take the reference period into consideration when comparing across samples. The wording used to describe the type of health worker also varied across surveys. See Survey Text for exact question wording.
