Description
For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONBD17 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a private clinic as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Bangladesh.
Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FPNONBD17 is combined with FPNONBD6 (private hospital/clinic) and FPNONBD7 (private medical college/hospital) in FPNONPRIVHOS (all private hospitals and clinics) for the 2018 Bangladesh sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in using FPNONBD17 are encouraged to review FPNONPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
FPNONBD17 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
Although FPNONBD17 is a country-specific response, an open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although FPNONBD17 is a country-specific response, it is combined with other responses in FPNONPRIVHOS, a standard variable that encompasses all private hospitals and clinics as sources of family planning. IPUMS DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONBD17 or the Comparability Tab of FPNONPRIVHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Bangladesh 2018.
