Description

For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONBD8 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a NGO static clinic as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Bangladesh.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONBD8 is combined with FPNONBD9 (NGO satellite clinic), FPNONBD10 (NGO depot holder), and FPNONBD11 (Other NGO) in FPNONNGO (all NGO sources) for the 2007 Bangladesh sample. Additionally, FPNONBD8 is combined with FPNONBD9 in FPNONNGO for the 2011 Bangladesh sample.

IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONBD8 are encouraged to review FPNONNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from slight universe differences, FPNONBD8 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONBD8 is a country-specific response.

To increase comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS created the standard variable FPNONNGO to integrate samples including "NGO" as a source of family planning. FPNONBD8 is combined with other responses in this variable for the 2007 and 2011 Bangladesh samples. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONBD8 or the Comparability Tab of FPNONNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the Bangladesh 2007 and 2011.
