Description

FPNONGM3 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported an NGO family planning clinic source as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Gambia.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONGM3 is combined with FPNONGM1 (NGO hospital or clinic), FPNONGM2 (NGO mobile clinic), and FPNONGM4 (Other NGO) in FPNONNGO (all NGO sources) for the 2013 Gambia sample.

IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONGM3 are encouraged to review FPNONNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

FPNONGM3 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONGM3 is a country-specific response.

To increase comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS created the standard variable FPNONNGO to integrate samples including "NGO" as a source of family planning. FPNONGM3 is combined with other responses in this variable for the 2013 Gambia sample.
