Description
For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONIA1 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported an urban health center, urban health post, or urban family welfare center as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to India.
Though IPUMS-DHS integrates "government health post" across samples (see FPNONPUBHP), FPNONIA1 is not included in the integrated variable because it consolidates multiple sources into a single category.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences, FPNONIA1 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONIA1 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules.
