Description

For women who are not currently using family planning, FPNONNP2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a sub health post as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Nepal.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONNP2 is combined with FPNONNP1 (health post) in FPNONPUBHP (all public health posts) for the 2001, 2006, and 2011 Nepal samples. IPUMS DHS users interested in using FPNONNP2 are encouraged to review FPNONPUBHP for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from slight universe differences, FPNONNP2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONNP2 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules.

To increase comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS created the standard variable FPNONPUBHP to integrate samples including "public health post" as a source of family planning. FPNONNP2 is combined with other public health post responses in that standard variable for the 2001, 2006, and 2011 Nepal samples. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONNP1 or the Comparability Tab of FPNONPUBHP for more information on the specific categories combined for the Nepal 2001, 2006, and 2011 samples.
