Description
For women who are not currently using a method of contraception, FPNONPUBDRUG indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a public dispensary or pharmacy as a source of family planning.
IPUMS-DHS users should be careful to distinguish this variable from FPNONPRIVDRUG, which indicates whether the woman reported a private dispensary or pharmacy as a source.

Comparability
The wording of this response category varies slightly across samples. Most commonly, samples organized this response category under a "public sector" header and worded it as "dispensary." Others samples worded the category as "pharmacy." Because this variable focuses on all public drug sources, "dispensary" and "pharmacy" are both included in FPNONPUBDRUG. Samples that significantly diverge from these standard conventions are noted below.
IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Survey Text tab for samples of interest.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Though responses in this variable are country-specific and not included in the standard DHS modules, they are integrated in FPNONPUBDRUG to increase comparability across samples.
Comparability — Chad [top]

Comparability — Mali [top]
The 2012 Malian survey combined maternity center with dispensary into a single category.
