Description

For women who are not currently using a method of contraception, FPNONPUBHP indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a government health post as a source of family planning.

Some samples that included public health post as a potential source were not added FPNONPUBHP due to comparability issues. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Comparability tab for more information on these samples.

Comparability

Apart from slight differences in question wording, FPNONPUBHP is largely comparable across samples.

Some samples, noted below, included "health post" as a potential source but ultimately were not added to FPNONPUBHP. These samples consolidated "health post" with other sources into a single response, making it impossible to separate the sources into distinct categories. IPUMS-DHS provides the information from these samples in country-specific variables referenced below.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though responses in this variable are country-specific and not included in the standard DHS modules, they are integrated in FPNONPUBHP to increase comparability across samples.

For Ethiopia 2011, FPNONET2 comprises government health post and health extension worker.

Comparability — Nepal [top]

For the 2001, 2006, and 2011 Nepal surveys, under the "Public Sector" header, there are two separate categories for "health post" and "sub-health post." Because this variable focuses on all public health posts, these two responses are consolidated in FPNONPUBHP to create a more comprehensive response category. For researchers interested in preserving these country-specific categories:
