Description
For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONRW5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a "private clinic" as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Rwanda.
Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FPNONRW5 is combined with FPNONRW4 (private polyclinic) in FPNONPRIVHOS for the 2010 and 2014 Rwandan samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONRW5 are encouraged to review FPNONPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
FPNONRW5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONRW5 is a country-specific response and is not included in the standard DHS modules.
Though FPNONRW5 is a country-specific response, it is combined with other responses in FPNONPRIVHOS, a standard variable that encompasses private hospitals and clinics as sources of family planning. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONRW5 or the Comparability tab of FPNONPRIVHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Rwanda 2010 and 2014.
