Description
For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONTZ10 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a pharmacy as a source of family planning.
Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FPNONTZ10 is combined with FPNONTZ11 (private dispensary) in FPNONPRIVDRUG for the 2010 Tanzania sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONTZ10 are encouraged to review FPNONPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
FPNONTZ10 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
FPNONTZ10 is combined with other responses in FPNONPRIVDRUG, a standard variable that encompasses all private, formal drug sources as potential suppliers of family planning. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Comparability tab of FPNONPRIVDRUG for more information on the specific categories combined for Tanzania.
