Codes and Frequencies
Description
FPPROBFSTS2 (V308_06) reports the woman's opinion about the main problem, if any, with using female sterilization as a family planning method. Interviewers collected the information through an open-ended question and then recorded the woman's response using country-specific codes.
IPUMS-DHS interested in using FPPROBFSTS2 may also be interested in FPPROBFSTS, which coded the woman's response using standard response categories.
Comparability
Along with changes in the universe and slight question wording differences, FPPROBFSTS2 (V308_06) varies across samples in the number and type of responses.
To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding and a 2-digit coding system. The first digit broadly distinguishes between different problems (e.g., side effects/health concerns), and the second digit provides additional detail within these initial groupings (e.g., side effects for woman versus side effects for child).
The label for and description of contraceptive methods varies slightly across samples. For exact question wording for samples of interest, consult the Survey Text tab.
Comparability - Standard DHS
