Codes and Frequencies
Description
FPPROBIMPS2 (V308_11) reports the woman's opinion about the main problem, if any, with using implants/Norplant as a family planning method. Interviewers collected the information through an open-ended question and then recorded the woman's response using country-specific codes.
IPUMS DHS users interested in using FPPROBIMPS2 may also be interested in FPPROBIMPS, which coded the woman's response using a smaller number of standard response categories.
Comparability
FPPROBIMPS2 has no comparability problems.
To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS DHS uses composite coding and a 2-digit coding system. The first digit broadly distinguishes between different problems (e.g., side effects/health concerns), and the second digit provides additional detail within these initial groupings (e.g., side effects for woman versus side effects for child).
Comparability - Standard DHS
FPPROBIMPS2 was included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase 1 only.
