Description
FPUSSRCWHY (V328) reports the main reason why the woman chose to go to the place where she procured family planning, rather than to some other facility. Responses are grouped into the broad categories of "knows no other source," "access-related," "service-related," and "cost-related," each with a distinctive first digit. The second digit provides further detail on the exact rationale for the choice (e.g., "cleaner facility" as a subcategory under "service-related").
When children are chosen as the unit of analysis, the woman respondent indicates the mother of the child.

Comparability
Apart from universe differences and minor differences in question wording, FPUSSRCWHY (V328) is comparable across most samples. A few samples (noted below) included additional response categories. To accommodate this variation, researchers may wish to focus on the broad categories of rationales (no other source known, access-related, service-related, and cost-related) with responses sharing a common first digit.
Comparability - Standard DHS
FPUSSRCWHY (V328) was included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase 3.
