Description
FPYNOTPREG indicates whether, in response to an open-ended questions about reasons for not using contraception, the woman reported she was pregnant.
Comparability
FPYNOTPREG has no comparability issues.
In the universe, the meaning of at risk of pregnancy varies across samples for variables in this series. For most DHS samples, women were considered to be at risk of pregnancy if they were not infecund, not sterilized, and not pregnant at the time of the interview. For a minority of samples, IPUMS-DHS also excludes from the universe women who have never had sex.
Comparability - Standard DHS
FPYNOTPREG is a country-specific variable, but it is part of a series of variables about reasons for not using contraception, which is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
