Description

FSDELIVALIVE indicates whether the delivery causing the female respondent's fistula resulted in a live birth. Similar information is included for some samples in FSDELIVERTYP.

When children are chosen as the unit of analysis, the woman respondent indicates the mother of the child.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, described below, FSDELIVALIVE is largely comparable across samples.

To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding with "Yes" responses having a first digit of "1." The second digit distinguishes between "Yes, died in first 7 days" (code "11"), "Yes, died after 7 days" (code "12"), and "Yes, still alive" (code "13"), when this additional information is available.

Comparability - Standard DHS

FSDELIVALIVE is not included in the standard DHS questionnaire but is based on a question in the standard DHS module on fistula.
