Description

GEO_ MG2008_2021 indicates the region of Madagascar where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.

Labels identify the modern geographic units (autonomous provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. The GEO_MG1992_2021 variable contains consistent geographic detail across all Madagascar samples.

Comparability

Madagascar had 22 regions in 2008. These units were also used in the 2021 sample with the addition of the capital of Antananarivo, bringing the total number to 23.
