Comparability
Along with universe differences, samples deviated considerably from the standard question phrasing for HASSOAP (V118).
Only those countries with comparability issues for this variable are discussed below.
Comparability - Standard DHS
Only the standard questionnaire for DHS Phase 1 asked, "Do you have, right now, a cake of soap on the premises?"
Comparability — Kenya [top]
The 1989 Kenyan survey asked about "bathing soap or washing soap" rather than "a cake of soap."
Comparability — Mali [top]
The 1987 Mali survey asked about usual practice and referred specifically to "hand washing" (i.e., "Do you usually have soap for hand washing in this household?")
