Description
HCFET10 indicates whether the woman reported a "private hospital" as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Ethiopia.
Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCFET10 is combined with HCFET3 (private clinic) in HCFPRIVHOS for the 2011 Ethiopia sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFET10 are encouraged to review HCFPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCFET10 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.
Though HCFET10 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFPRIVHOS, a variable that encompasses private hospitals and clinics as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFET10 or the Comparability tab of HCFPRIVHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Ethiopia 2011.
Universe
