Description

HCFMM8 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported some "other" non-governmental organization as a source for female condoms. The meaning of other depends on the NGO categories specified in a sample. This response category is country-specific to Myanmar.

Some samples in the "HCF" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCFMM8 is combined with HCFMM4 (Marie Stopes International), HCFMM5 (Myanmar Red Cross), HCFMM6 (Population Services International/Myanmar [PSI/M]), and HCFMM7 (Myanmar Medical Association) in HCFNGO (all NGOs) for the 2015 Myanmar sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFMM8 are encouraged to review HCFNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

HCFMM8 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.

Although HCFMM8 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in HCFNGO, a standard variable that encompasses all NGOs as potential sources for female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFMM8 or the Comparability tab of HCFNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2015 Myanmar sample.

Universe
