Description
HCFMW9 indicates whether the woman reported a "mission door-to-door" as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Malawi.
Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCFMW9 is combined with HCFMW2 (mission health center), HCFMW3 (mission hospital), and HCFMW4 (mission mobile clinic) in HCFPRIVMIS (all faith-based facilities) for the 2010 Malawi sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFMW9 are encouraged to review HCFPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCFMW9 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.
Though HCFMW9 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFPRIVMIS, a variable that encompasses all faith-based facilities as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFMW9 or the Comparability tab of HCFPRIVMIS for more information on the specific categories combined for Malawi 2010.
