Description
HCFNE3 indicates whether the woman reported a public district hospital as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Niger.
Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCFNE3 is combined with HCFNE1 (public national hospital) and HCFNE2 (public regional hospital) in HCFPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2012 Niger sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFNE3 are encouraged to review HCFPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCFNE3 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.
Though HCFNE3 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFPUBHOS, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFNE3 or the Comparability tab of HCFPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Niger 2012.
