HCFNG2 indicates whether the woman reported a private chemical/drug store as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Nigeria.

Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCFNG2 is combined with HCFNG1 (private pharmacy) in HCFPRIVDRUG (all private, formal drug sources) for the 2008 and 2013 Nigeria samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFNG2 are encouraged to review HCFPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.

Though HCFNG2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFPRIVDRUG, a variable that encompasses all private, formal drug sources as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFNG2 or the Comparability tab of HCFPRIVDRUG for more information on the specific categories combined for Nigeria 2008 and 2013.
