Comparability
Along with universe differences, HCFPUBFPC (V762BC) has some contextual factors regarding question wording that should be noted by researchers. This survey context broadly applies to the "source for female condom" series. For discussion of this topic, see the comparability section of HCFDK.
The responses in HCFPUBFPC are largely comparable across samples, and the response category is consistently organized under the "public sector" or "public medical sector" header. A few samples (discussed below) include multiple types of public family planning clinics as separate responses, and these responses are combined in HCFPUBFPC.
For most samples, the variable was a part of a question that asked the respondent to list all known sources for female condoms. Some countries, discussed below, recorded only the first response, which may affect the comparability of those samples.
Comparability - Standard DHS
HCFPUBFPC (V762BC) first appears in phase IV of the Standard DHS. It is removed in phase VI and replaced with "country-specific public sector."
Comparability — Malawi [top]
For Malawi 2000, only the first response was recorded. Although the respondent may have known of a "family planning clinic" as an additional source for female condoms, only her first response was documented.
Comparability — Zimbabwe [top]
In the 2005, 2010, and 2015 Zimbabwe surveys, there are separate categories for ZNFPC [Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council] clinic and ZNFPC CBD. Because HCFPUBFPC focuses on all public family planning clinics and associations, these responses are consolidated in this variable to create a more comprehensive response category. For researchers interested in preserving these country-specific categories:
