Description
HCFRW5 indicates whether the woman reported a private polyclinic as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Rwanda.
Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCFRW5 is combined with HCFRW6 (private clinic) in HCFPRIVHOS (all private hospitals and clinics) for the 2010 and 2014 Rwanda samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFRW5 are encouraged to review HCFPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCFRW5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.
Though HCFRW5 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFPRIVHOS, a variable that encompasses all private hospitals and clinics as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFRW5 or the Comparability tab of HCFPRIVHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Rwanda 2010 and 2014.
