Description
HCFTZ1 indicates whether the woman reported a religious referral hospital as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Tanzania.
Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCFTZ1 is combined with HCFTZ2 (religious district hospital), HCFTZ3 (religious health center), and HCFTZ4 (religious dispensary) in HCFPRIVMIS (all faith-based facilities) for the 2004 and 2010 Tanzania samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFTZ1 are encouraged to review HCFPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCFTZ1 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.
Though HCFTZ1 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFPRIVMIS, a variable that encompasses all faith-based facilities as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFTZ1 or the Comparability tab of HCFPRIVMIS for more information on the specific categories combined for Tanzania 2004 and 2010.
