Description
HCMPUBMOB (V762AD) indicates whether the woman reported a "public mobile clinic" as a source for male condoms.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
For example, a given sample might include multiple categories for different types of public health centers that could be combined to create a more comprehensive response category. See Comparability for more information on the specific categories combined in HCMPUBHC.
IPUMS-DHS users should be careful to distinguish this variable from HCMPRIVMOB (private mobile clinic).

Comparability
Along with universe differences, HCMPUBMOB (V762AD) has some variation in question wording that broadly applies to the "source for male condom" series. For discussion on question wording in this variable series, see the comparability section of HCMDK.
This response category wording is comparable across most surveys. Only surveys that depart from standard "mobile clinic" wording are discussed below.
The category is consistently organized under the "public sector" or "public medical sector" header in the survey.
Comparability - Standard DHS
HCMPUBMOB (V762AD) first appears in phase IV of the Standard DHS questionnaire. It is removed in phase VI of the standard DHS questionnaire and replaced with "Country-specific public sector."
Samples from Phase III are also included in this variable. For discussion of differences between phases in this variable series, see the Comparability - Standard DHS tab of HCMDK.
Comparability — India [top]
The India 2005 survey words this response category as "Govt. Mobile Clinic."
Comparability — Namibia [top]
In the 2013 Namibia survey, under the "Public Sector" header, there are separate categories for "outreach point" and "mobile clinic." Because HCMPUBMOB focuses on all public mobile clinics, these responses are consolidated in this variable to create a more comprehensive response category. For researchers interested in preserving these country-specific categories:
Comparability — Rwanda [top]
The Rwanda 2010 and 2014 surveys word this response category as "outreach." "Outreach" is typically recognized as a "mobile clinic"; however, the term sometimes captures "fieldworker" responses as well. In the case of the 2010 and 2014 Rwanda surveys, "outreach" appears to be exclusive from "fieldworker" responses, which are also listed in the survey text.
Comparability — Uganda [top]
The Uganda 2001, 2006 and 2011 surveys word this response category as "outreach." "Outreach" is typically recognized as a "mobile clinic," however, the term sometimes captures "fieldworker" responses as well. In the case of the 2001, 2006 and 2011 Uganda surveys, "outreach" appears to be exclusive from "fieldworker" responses, which are also listed in the survey text.

The 2013 Zambia survey words this response category as "Public mobile hospital/clinic."
Comparability — Zimbabwe [top]
The 2005, 2010, and 2015 Zimbabwe surveys word this response category as "MOH [Ministry of Health] Mobile Clinic."
