Description
HEALTHCARDKID (H1) indicates whether the child had a health card and, if so, whether the card was seen by the interviewer. Child health cards were examined to determine whether and, if so, when, the child received specific vaccinations.
Comparability — Index
Comparability
Along with universe differences and slight differences in question wording, HEALTHCARDKID (H1) differs in the number of response categories.
IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding to maximize comparability. "No card" responses have a first digit of "1" (with "11" indicating "No longer has card"); "Yes, currently has card" responses have a first digit of "2," with the second digit distinguishing between cards seen (code "21") and not seen (code "22").
Comparability - Standard DHS
HEALTHCARDKID (H1) is included in all phases of the standard DHS questionnaire.
In Phase I, the standard questionnaire asks, "Do you have a health card for (NAME)? IF YES: May I see it please?"
In Phases II through VI, the standard questionnaires ask, "Do you have a health card where (NAME)'s vaccinations are written down? IF YES: May I see it please?" This is followed by, "Did you ever have a vaccination card for (NAME)?"
In Phase VII, the standard questionnaire asks, "Do you have a card or other document [emphasis added] where (NAME)'s vaccinations are written down? IF YES: May I see it please? Did you ever have a vaccination card for (NAME)?"
