Description
HHOUTPAT1WHYHH reports why the household member selected for the health expenditures module (HHOUTPAT1LINENOHH) most recently received outpatient care in the last four weeks.
Comparability
HHOUTPAT1WHYHH may differ across samples in the number of response categories. To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding, with the first digit providing a general reason (e.g., "Illness, disease, or infection" is code "30"), and the second digit distinguishing between specific reasons (e.g., "Diarrhea" is code "31" and "Fever" is code "32"), when this additional information is available.
Comparability - Standard DHS
HHOUTPAT1WHYHH is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS household questionnaire or standard out-of-pocket health expenditures module.
