HUSEDLVLNP reports the highest level of school the respondent's most recent husband attended. This variable is country-specific to Nepal and reflects the Nepali educational system.
In addition to universe differences and slight differences in question wording, HUSEDLVLNP differs across samples in the available response categories. These differences are largely due to changes in the Nepali educational system.
To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding for this variable. For example, all levels of schooling above SLC share a common first digit of "4", the second digit distinguishes between intermediate and Bachelor's degree, and the third digit provides information on completion.
Comparability - Standard DHS
A question about the highest level of school the respondent has attended is included in every phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. HUSEDLVLNP is a country-specific variable.
