Codes and Frequencies
Description
IDEALEDDAU reports the highest level of education the woman would like her daughters to obtain.
Comparability
Along with universe differences and slight differences in question wording, IDEALEDDAU differs in the number of response categories across samples. To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding, with responses covering some schooling but less than secondary school sharing a first digit of "1," at least some secondary education sharing a first digit of "2," and "more than secondary" sharing a first digit of "3." Additional detail is preserved in the second digit (e.g., code 13 for "able to read and write").
Comparability - Standard DHS
IDEALEDDAU is a country-specific variable not included in the standard DHS questionnaire.
