MARENDWHY (V538) is included in Phase V of the standard DHS questionnaire as part of the HIV/AIDS module. The questions related to MARENDWHY should only be included in countries where HIV prevalence is higher than 5 percent or where more than 8 percent of children age 0-17 years are orphans (i.e., one or both biological parents have died).
