Description
MIGRWHY reports the reason the respondent came to the place where she resided at the time of the interview.
Comparability
Along with universe differences and slight differences in question wording, MIGRWHY varies across samples in the response categories recorded. Some samples framed answers in terms of familial relations (who was involved in the migration), while others emphasized economic rationales (push and pull factors motivating migration).
Comparability - Standard DHS
MIGRWHY is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
